This is the right approach to look at Civil Services Examination preparation. Being focused, you will be able to concentrate on the preparation and would be able to cover it effectively. Since the pattern of Main Examination has just been changed, it is prudent to understand the complete exam-plan and related requirements at each stage of the examination. You should commence preparation by adopting integrated approach for General Studies and should make a strategy to cover the...... Read More

Yes, the pattern for Main Examination has changed. Now, this examination is in new orbit and requires fresh strategies for an effective preparation. Sir, which General studies manual is best for paper 1 preparation for pre as well as mains ? please also suggest for paper 2.

The syllabus for General Studies (Main Examination) is new and has many constituents. Hardly any book would cover it all. For both Preliminary Examination Paper I & Main Examination General Studies papers, you can start with NCERT Books for laying the foundation. As you advance, you can pick relevant text-books for reference to make an effective preparation. At the same time, make newspapers reading a daily habit.   ... Read More

sir, i want to prepare for cse 2014.iam starting my preparation right now,but what is the best time(weather june or december)to go for coaching?also please suggest me the best institute in hyderabad.

If you wish to join coaching institute for Main Examination 2014, you can think about June 2014 batches as most of the coaching have June/October batches. Two reasons for suggesting so; one, the coaching should be near to examination so that you are able to cover the latest. Two, for the first time Main Examination is going to be conducted in December 2013 which will give fair idea about the question papers in new fo...... Read More

sir drishty is good for gs? suggest me some coaching name for hindi medium mukherji nagar

Drishti-The Vision is a new entrant in General Studies coaching. As it is known for quality, you can consider joining them for Hindi medium. If you wish to look beyond, you can look at Dhyeya IAS or may be Discovery IAS for General Studies in Hindi Medium.... Read More

sir,,,please suggest me how is public administration as i read somewhere that out of 1800 marks,,,,1200 marks of GS is from public administration.

Public Administration is a very good optional subject. It has been producing excellent results but now, with change in pattern for Main Examination, the role of optional subject has been cut. Don't go by such figures. As per the scheme for Main Examination, One optional Subject is worth 500 marks only out of 1750 Main Exam (Written) total. There may be some syllabus overlap with General Studies but, that should not become the basic for such claim.   A...... Read More

Dear Sir, Is Distance Education Or postal notes are completely beneficial for preparation for civil services

No, not completely; but, yes partially. The recent trends clearly reflect UPSC has adopted a dynamic approach and the search for the right person for higher posts has culminated with its drift towards contemporary developments. The postal notes can get you direction; can help you in covering conventional aspects of the syllabus but, you will have to make efforts to top up your preparation with current developments to keep it up-to-date.... I will be giving my first attempt in 2014. I need guidance to choose b/w Sociology and Pub Ad as optional. I am equally comfortable in both though I have no background in humanities. I analysed that in new pattern, Pub Ad has more overlapping with GS than Sociology in mains eg. GSII paper III. Sociology does not seem to have that much overlapping with GS. Also Sir could you tell me if syllabus of Pub Ad is more than that of sociology i.e. people say that syllabus of Pub Ad is exhaustive but I think Pub Ad and sociology have similar size of syllabus. Could you please tell if I am right? Thanks

I can understand the dilemma among candidates about the optional subject selection and as you mentioned, you are comfortable with both Public Administration and Sociology and are confused which one to pick? The concept of picking optional subject based on syllabus overlap with General Studies used to be a major deciding factor during previous years where optional subjects really dominated and choice of optional subjects was a crucial decision. You may spot some t...... Read More
