Hello Sir, I am a 3rd year B.Tech student from Andhra Pradesh and will be promoted to 4th year in a month. As the prelims is scheduled in august, can I attempt? And is 3-4 months enough for me to prepare and crack the exam with good guidance and planning? I wish to give my 100% in this process. If it is possible, which subject should I start from? Expecting a brief answer from you. Regards

You will be eligible when you complete your B.Tech as UPSC clearly mentions that the candidate must hold a degree from a recognized university. As next month, you will be in 4th year, you need to wait till final year and then, you can plan to appear in Civil Services Examination next year.  ... Read More

Dear Sir, I am working in TCS Lucknow and preparing for CSE as well. I have planned to take Prelims and then a break from job for the period between Pre and Mains. I thought I would enroll myself for Coaching in Delhi. Is this approach right? I am very doubtful as I do not have anyone to guide. Any input would be appreciable. Thanks and regards. Pawan

You need to understand the complete exam-plan before you decide to prepare for Civil Services Examination seriously. Probably, you have not planned it as you are Preparing for Preliminary Examination first; and after Prelims, plan to prepare for Main Examination. You will have less than 4 months’ time for Main Examination after Preliminary Examination and even if you join coaching institute, it would be quite challenging to cover the complete syllabus in limited time. Hello Sir, I am working as a software profession in an MNC. Is it possible to clear UPSC Pre -2015 by studying for 5 months. I have Vajiram notes that I got from my friend. Will they be sufficient for preparation ?

You may prepare for Preliminary Examination 2015 within almost 5 months’ time but, we sincerely advice that you should look at complete exam-plan as cracking Prelims only is of no use. Moreover, notes from coaching institute can get you some idea but, would not suffice the purpose. This examination is much above ordinary and with help of standard text-books and relevant study-material, you endeavour should be to uplift your preparation that can match exam-standards.... Sir, I was thrilled to hear the news last year when the age limit was increased for UPSC from 30 to 32 years. Being a Civil Services aspirant myself, I am planning to appear for the exam in 2016. Also being a family man and aged 30, I am hounded by the lack of clarity for the age limit notification for 2016 (32 and 5 years relaxation for J&K domicile will stay?). I would appreciate if you could please clarify this as it is becoming awfully tough to study with this tension lingering around. Sincerely Yours, Abhay

For this query answer rests in future and right now, nothing can be said about eligibility policy UPSC may adopt while notifying for Civil Services Examination 2016. Prospects for Age relaxation from 30 to 32 next year i.e. for CSE 2016 are doubtful as this relaxation was only for two years; but, we can hope that five years age relaxation for candidates domiciled in the state of Jammu & Kashmir should continue. Even if, this relaxation stays, you will be eligible to appear in CSE 2016. You should not have any apprehensions and you should prepare diligently so that you are able to accomplish task in this attempt.... Read More

From past few days I have been thinking about my other friends who are doing Engineering, Law, Medical etc (who are not preparing for IAS) are taking training, internship and other extra activities. But I am doing plain B.A. and that too from Distance learning, I also want to make my profile more appealing. So could you suggest me some courses or internship for B.A stream or should i do some certificate course

Looking at your profile, we find that you are quite inquisitive and have been raising lots of questions relating to Civil Services Examination preparation. Hope you are quite serious about your preparation and are not here to emulate what others are doing. Civil Services Examination preparation is quite different and the activities you are talking about do not render much help. Instead of making efforts to improve your profile, you should concentrate your energies on your preparation that will really determine your fate. So, keep preparing… All the best!... Read More
