Pure social sciences like Sociology require very strong expression which generally engineering background candidates lack. Civil Services Exam preparation needs integrated approach (Prelims+Mains). It is nice you are moving ahead with such intent. But, preparing CSAT+GS+Public Administration+Geograpgy simultaneously would be pretty difficult to handle. So, plan your study accordingly so that you are able to manage it well. Rau's IAS is an established name. The reputation is more important be it New Delhi or Jaipur so, should not doubt on utility. Sir, I am in Electrical. One of my optional is Public Administration and the other was Psychology. I wanted to change Psychology to Anthropology due to its low scores nowadays. I need help and suggestion from you if this move would be right. Flip side, I am also considering Philosophy instead of Public Administration. Again will that be a wise move? Thinking of changing both optional subjects would not be a wise move. You have not mentioned how many attempts you have taken with Public Administration and Psychology. At the same time you have not made it clear that you took coaching for these or it was self-preparation. If you can express yourself better in Hindi, you should go ahead with it. Success in Civil Services Examination is all about your performance and securing good marks depend upon substance in answers and nice presentation. If you are not comfortable in English, how-so-ever good your preparation is, you may not be able to express properly. As far as securing high ranks with Hindi is concerned, scene is not as bad as you are painting. Among top 50, this year Shiv Sahay Awasthi (AIR-34, CSE 2010), Rahul (AIR-36, CSE 2010), Mithlesh Mishra (AIR-46, CSE 2010) have secured good ranks with Hindi Medium.
