Dear Sir, I am working in TCS Lucknow and preparing for CSE as well. I have planned to take Prelims and then a break from job for the period between Pre and Mains. I thought I would enroll myself for Coaching in Delhi. Is this approach right? I am very doubtful as I do not have anyone to guide. Any input would be appreciable. Thanks and regards. Pawan

You need to understand the complete exam-plan before you decide to prepare for Civil Services Examination seriously.

Probably, you have not planned it as you are Preparing for Preliminary Examination first; and after Prelims, plan to prepare for Main Examination. You will have less than 4 months’ time for Main Examination after Preliminary Examination and even if you join coaching institute, it would be quite challenging to cover the complete syllabus in limited time.

This is not a correct strategy as being serious candidate; you cannot look at this examination stage-wise.

While in job, it becomes more important to do so; and with recent changes as the situation has evolved, even common candidates need to prepare for both Preliminary as well as Main Examination simultaneously.

If you wish to have a winning strategy, first go for self-assessment to know your strengths and weaknesses. Understand the syllabus for each stage of examination and have a look at previous years’ question papers to understand the level and current trends.

Adopt integrated approach for preparation and begin with self-help to identify the areas that are your strength and other areas that need special attention and accordingly prioritize your study-plan.

At any time you feel it is not manageable, you can decide about joining coaching institute for guidance.

Make a beginning and slowly, you will keep on getting insights about prpeparation.
