I have just completed by 12th with PCB. I want to pursue IAS as my Career. Which subject should I do my B.Sc. from, to benefit me the most during my IAS preparations? BTW I want to do B.Sc. in Biological domain but I am confused about which particular subject- Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry? (PS: Earlier I prepared for MBBS entrance examinations, so I have thorough knowledge of Biology)

For graduation, you can think about any one among Botany or Zoology as these figures in the list of optional subjects available for Civil Services (Main) Examination. But, if you are serious about making career in ‘Civil Services’ then, you should understand the complete exam-plan and related requirements at each stage of the examination.

Right now, concentrate on your graduation and side by side, keep looking at CSE related requirements.

Choice of optional subject can be made at a later stage after you gain some understanding of the subjects. Chances are, you may develop liking for some other subject while preparing for different constituents listed in General Studies syllabus.

Knowledge relating to Biology would be useful to a little extent as not much is being asked from this discipline. Whereas, at Preliminary Examination level, in Paper II, Mathematics and Reasoning are important constituents and skills related to these are to be learnt.
