Can you tell me how to plan the preparation? I am working, that is why I am unable to plan my preparation properly. Need guidance urgently.

Civil Services Examination is in league of its own. It has become more challenging as it has witnessed a lot of changes in recent times.

For working people, it becomes difficult to spare time for preparation as the exam-plan is demanding and exhaustive. But, if you are committed, you can put whatever time you get into effective preparation and can prepare yourself to face the examination confidently.

Before you begin, you have to understand the examination plan and requirements at each stage. The pattern is such were you have to simultaneously care for both Prelims as well as Main Examination. As Prelims 2014 is going to be staged on 24th August 2014 and for the Main Examination 2014, you will get only about three and half months’ time as Mains would commence on December 14, 2014.

For Preliminary Examination, Paper I get almost prepared while you prepare for Main Examination; Paper II needs some mathematical/reasoning/linguistic skills and requires a lot of practice.

In Main Examination, now you have 4 General Studies papers along with Essay and one optional subject.

You should start with some basic books to lay a solid foundation and later, you can advance with your study-plan as per needs. Cultivate daily newspaper reading habit as this will help build awareness and keep you abreast with the latest.

For working professionals who don’t have time, it is always prudent to use internet for attaining knowledge and being informed.

You should plan your study in such a way that you prepare with self-help and as and when you feel confident, you can even think of joining coaching institute for help to uplift your preparation.
