IAS preparation: In the beginning, self-assessment is must

From the day one, you need to have a strategy for Civil Services Examination preparation and for a solid foundation take your own time for groundwork.

You move ahead with a proper planning and focus to realize your dream. Self-assessment would help you in priortizing the needs as per requirements. Your aim is that your preparation reaches the level this examination entails.

With self-analysis, at least establish that this is within your reach or not and only after that you should take first attempt.


In today’s world, many youngsters with pre-set notions, just chase their dreams and in doing so, they don’t realize their capabilities, their aptitude; they only experiment with the life and if they fail, coolly attempt something new.

Before you commence preparation for any examination, you need to ask a few questions to yourself so that you are able to ascertain matching skills, traits and your seriousness towards the goal you have set.

Is it your planned choice? Is it because of family pressure? Is dream of power and prestige reason for this fascination? Or, is it self-image of being knowledgeable that has prompted you to look at it? Or else, just want to show your friends, and people around that you are pursuing preparation for ‘Civil Services Examination’?

As a matter of fact, success in Civil Services Examination is all about courage, capability and commitment and these factors really influence the final outcome.

Have a proper Preparation-Plan

Time has gone when candidates used to consider appearing in prestigious Civil Services Examination without fixed plan and the IAS preparation used to be 4-5 years phenomenon and after that realizing that this is much beyond their reach.

From the day one, you need to have a strategy; take your own time for groundwork to reach the level of the examination and only after that you should take first attempt with proper planning and preparation to realize your dream or at least establish that this is within your reach or not.

You are in prime youth and it is the golden period of your life that is at stake and if it doesn’t work out here, you need to have a back-up plan ready and should look out for alternative career that suits your aptitude.

I must apprise you that it is tough; but, not impossible.

It is all about how strong is the desire and what kind of efforts you wish to put in to achieve success in Civil Services Examination.
