Young engineering graduate Nitika begun her pursuit for excellence and accomplished the task in style as she achieved 18th rank in Civil Services Examination 2011.

This success came to her in very first attempt with optional subjects that were completely new for her - Political Science & International Relations and LAW.

The most peculiar thing about her success-story is that being a non-Law student, she performed well with Law as optional subject.

Nitika Pawar, a simple, confident girl with high ambitions commenced her career exploration journey with the Civil Services Examination preparation.

Immediately after completing B. Tech degree taking a task in hand about which she had a little idea; but, she had dreams and vision and that was enough to make a move.

She worked really hard to become successful and in her endeavour her mentor helped her develop and create her own image.

Elaborating her craze for career in 'Civil Services' Nitika said, “I did not want to wait for my entry into Civil Services. When I had no idea about it, I depended on the details and information I got and my gut feel was that whatever I am doing that is right. My father also encouraged me and supported by decision.”Nitika Pawar AIR 18; CSE 2011

When there were apprehensions all around relating to new pattern of Preliminary Examination that got introduced with CSE 2011, she focused on her preparation and had a holistic view at the complete examination plan and not in pieces.

The way Nitika narrated her success-story, it seemed as if CSE is a child’s play and success in Civil Services Examination is not that difficult.

With hard-work reflecting in her eye as well as in talks, she recalls, “it is not as simple as it appears today. I had adopted a unidirectional approach the moment I got serious about this examination. From November 2010 onwards, it was nothing but CSE that occupied my mind.”

Choice of optional subjects was the first step towards success and choosing the right pair of optional subject was not that easy.

Here, right advice came from Karam sir (Nirvana IAS) and I picked up two completely new subjects for me – Political Science & International Relations and LAW.

That’s how, my preparation begun and soon, I was seriously indulged in my preparation. I had only a few months in hand and time management was really crucial.

I kept my eyes and efforts on Main Examination related requirements understanding well the overlap with Prelims syllabus and my optional subjects.

Many a candidates look at it stage wise; but, as I was very clear, I don’t have to squander; I made the best use of the time available and kept moving.

“For Preliminary Examination, I was not very much concerned. Looking at the syllabus, it seemed manageable and I did a lot of practice. My engineering background helped me in tackling General Studies Paper II (Aptitude Test).

Asked about at any stage did she have encountered any problem, Nitika said that if you are preparing diligently, there is nothing that is obscure. The Prelims went off well and there was no confusion; but, when I faced the General Studies paper in Main Examination, I was little shaken. However, it took me minutes to understand that if I attempt, it will not be difficult."

"As I had been an avid reader of newspapers and have very good expression; I started my answers and soon, I was on track. This confidence helped me throughout my Main Examination and after it when I visualized my attempt; I gained self-belief that my success was in sight”, she added.

“I am excited not only for achieving success; I am glad that I have enjoyed the complete journey and that is going to be conduct throughout my life” she said.

Determined, as she is; Nitika says it is just the beginning.

I have a long way to travel and I am glad I achieved this success at an age where actually many candidates start thinking seriously about Civil Services Examination.
