admin Last Update on: 28 Mar 2017

A glance at the data emerging from 66th Annual Report of UPSC clearly indicates the top 10 optional subjects that helped candidates to crack this examination.

The list has all popular names that occupied the top 10 list except Economics that has given way to Psychology that has made a comeback in this list.

The performance of the candidates with Geography as optional subjects has been remarkable as it turned out maximum number of successes in Civil Services Examination 2014.

Top seven popular optional subjects that helped candidates in achieving success in Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2014 are same as in 2013; but, their standing has changed.

While Geography (255 candidates) helped maximum number of candidates to accomplish the goal and remained on top, Sociology (193 candidates) grabbed the second position by displacing Public Administration (151 candidates) to third spot.

The next best performer History (102 candidates) continues to be at 4th place while Medical Science (71 candidates) inched up to 5th spot. Anthropology (68 candidates) remained glued to 6th spot and Philosophy (64 candidates) is the subsequent performers in the list.

The most significant observation is that subject that has been quite popular Psychology (59 candidates) has once figured in top performing subject.

Economics (26 candidates) is the noticeable optional subject that is missing from top 10 list.

While 9 out of these top 10 optional subjects have seen increase in number of candidates recommended, the only exception is Public Administration (2013-176 candidates; 2014-151 candidates) has seen decline.
