Cut-off marks for Civil Services Examination 2013 released

Union Public Service Commission has released Cut-off marks for Civil Services Examination 2013. The Cut-off for all stages of the examination i.e. Preliminary Examination, Main Examination (Written) and Final cut-off marks is given.


Continuing the trend Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has started, the Cut-off marks for Civil Services Examination 2013 are released.

The biggest revelation is that In Preliminary Examination 2013 and even in Main Examination 2013, individual cut-off was applicable.

While preparing for Civil Service Examination, most of the candidates look at these figures closely as these gives a rough idea about the current trends at various stages of examination that helps them in formulating their own preparation-strategies.

The following table gives the complete picture where stage-wise and category-wise cut-off is also given.

The minimum qualifying marks for various communities have been as under:-

*Subject to minimum of 30 marks in Paper-I and 70 marks in Paper-II.

#Subject to 10% marks in each of the seven competitive papers i.e. Essay, GS-I, GS-II, GS-III, GS-IV, Optional–I and Optional-II.

The surprising trend that emerges out of these figures is that while cut-off for Preliminary Examination 2013 has gone up, cut-off (in percentage terms) for Main Examination 2013 and for Civil Services Examination 2013 Final result has come down slightly.

Cut-off Preliminary examination 2013

Comparing with Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2012, the cut-off for CSE 2013 has gone up to 241 (General Category) against 209 in CSE 2012.

Cut-off Main Examination 2013 (Written)

For General category, the Civil Services (Main) Examination cut-off is 564 marks out of 1750 total marks that come out to be about 32 per cent.

In CSE 2012, the cut-off was 700 marks out of 2000 total marks i.e. 35 per cent.

Final cut-off Civil Services Examination 2013

Final cut-off for CSE 2013 has come at 38.3 per cent as General category candidates with 775 marks and above out of 2025 total marks have found place in merit-list.

It stood at 936 marks out of total 2300 marks in Civil Services Examination 2012 that make it 40.7 per cent.
